snittlegarth farm lodges

Our Farm

Snittlegarth was bought in 1945 by the Green family, and has been passed through 3 generations and is primarily permanent pasture for beef and sheep. Our three identical lodges are located on the edge of our property, but if you’re lucky, you might spot some of our chickens, pigs or horses from your window!

Our Heritage

In the late 1800s and early 20th century, Snittlegarth was owned by Lord Gillford and extended to 12,000 acres. It was said Lord and Lady Gillford travelled from London by train and then horse and carriage to their country estate with guests including Emily Pankhurst.

The extensive parkland in front of Snittlegarth was planted in the early 1800s with some spectacular oaks and limes. See below an image from the early 19th century.

The Wildlife

We are blessed with many species of British wildlife including roe deer,  hares, and a range of British and garden birds. On the farm, we are passionate about all aspects of wildlife and conservation and pride ourselves on the variety of species. For many years the farm has been a part of different stewardship and conservation schemes to enhance British wildlife, flora and fauna.
